Teaching philosophy
From a young age, I have been drawn to helping others grow and find their path. Growing up in Ferrara (Italy), I was actively involved in a scout group and eventually became a scout leader. This experience exposed me to the generosity, altruism, and dedication of senior leaders who freely invested their time in mentoring younger members. Their example instilled in me a deep appreciation for service, mentorship, and the importance of guiding others toward self-discovery and confidence.
Throughout my education and clinical training, I was fortunate to have impactful mentors who supported me during challenges, from primary school through my journey to becoming a periodontist. Their encouragement during moments of self-doubt, particularly after complications in clinical cases, reinforced the value of perseverance and lifelong learning. These experiences shaped my teaching philosophy, which centers on passion for periodontology, individualized learning, and fostering growth both as an educator and a lifelong learner.
As an assistant professor, I aim to create a learning environment that supports, challenges, and inspires students. I teach undergraduate dental students, dental hygiene students, and graduate periodontal residents, adapting my methods to diverse learning styles using visuals, case-based discussions, hands-on demonstrations, and collaborative activities. Working alongside students in the clinic allows me to bridge theory and practice, demonstrating real-time application of concepts and guiding students in achieving optimal patient outcomes.
I view teaching, clinical practice, and research as interconnected, enriching both my instruction and students’ learning. I am committed to continuous improvement through workshops, mentorship, and student feedback, aiming to integrate evidence-based pedagogical strategies and create an inclusive, interactive, and collaborative learning environment.
Ultimately, my goal is to support students’ professional and personal growth, fostering confidence, critical thinking, and curiosity, while sharing my passion for periodontology and modeling the values of mentorship and lifelong learning that have profoundly shaped my own journey.
