Road closures
City of Winnipeg Construction – University Crescent

- Overview: Work on University Crescent will start up again beginning the week of April 21, 2025 with underground utility renewal. Road renewal will commence in late May and will last until September/October 2025. Construction includes utility upgrades, road renewal, new sidewalk, lighting and new traffic signals at Markham Road and Sifton Road. Traffic on University Crescent will be reduced to one lane in either direction from Thatcher Drive to Dysart Road. Delays may be experienced during peak times. Please plan accordingly. Barricades and safety signage will be clearly posted to safely direct vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians as required. Transit service will be maintained with temporary bus stop relocations when required. Transit reroutes may be required during special events. There will be no on-street parking. Caution should be taken at all times. Flag people will be on site to help direct traffic as needed. Your patience and cooperation to ensure everyone’s safety is appreciated.

Manitoba Hydro Construction – Markham Road (City of Winnipeg Street)

Overview: Manitoba Hydro will be working on underground infrastructure along Markham Road. Work was anticipated to start mid-February, but has been delayed. The work is now expected to commence March 12, 2025 and last until April 9, 2025. During this work periodic closures of Markham Road are expected. The work is expected in two sections from Snow Street to Bohemier Trail as well as Bohemier Trail – University Crescent.

Please note that Parking Lots Q, U, SD, L, ACW, AC, ALC, D, and the Fort Garry Parkade all accommodate longer term/casual parking for posted rates.

Sifton Road Construction

Overview: Sifton Road has reopened with one lane accessing University Crescent. Traffic has resumed to normal on Dysart Road and Sidney Smith Street. Construction on Sifton Road and University Crescent continues through spring/summer 2025 and delays can be expected.
In order to reduce delays, interim pick-up and drop-off locations have been identified across the Fort Garry campus. See map for locations.

Our plumbing shop is currently working on formulating a repair plan to address the issue promptly. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and assure you that we are working diligently to resolve the situation as quickly as possible.

Overview: We are in the final repair stages of having the North generator put back online. The temporary generator in parking lot A (see map for location) currently cannot be removed until a full load test to the existing one has been completed.
On Monday April 13th, a semi and trailer will be bringing a load bank and transformer to perform this task. Once the load test has been completed, we will be arranging to remove all the trailers from parking lot A.

Overview: Please be advised the Brodie / JBRC freight elevator remains shut down for repairs since Tuesday 06/25/2024 and will continue to be shut down for an unspecified period of time. TK Elevator Winnipeg is working to get the elevator repaired as soon as is possible and will be updating the timeline of the repair.
Please use the BMSB freight elevator where cross over floors to Brodie / JBRC are located, floors without a cross over will have to rely on the passenger elevators until the freight elevator is back in service.

Joyce Fromson Pool, Frank Kennedy Centre
The Joyce Fromson Pool is currently closed and will remain closed until further notice.
An assessment revealed that it has reached the end of its lifespan and is no longer viable. The university is actively exploring options for replacing the pool
UM remains committed to offering high-quality swim programming and will continue to update the community as more information becomes available about replacing the Joyce Fromson Pool.

- Category:55 Chancellors Circle – Cooling System Repair Extended to June 25, 2025. The repair of the air conditioning system at 55 Chancellors Circle has been extended due to damaged equipment received from the manufacturer. As a result, the building’s cooling system will remain offline until July 7th, 2025.
- Partial cooling is expected to be restored by June 27th, with full cooling in place by July 7th. , with full cooling in place by June 25. During this time, indoor temperatures may be higher than normal during periods of warm weather.

Medical Services Building

- Overview: The Medical Services Building Structural Upgrades to the Roof Assembly Project is set to resume on Monday, June 9, 2025, with an anticipated/forecasted duration of 3 months (completion by ~mid-September).
- Our contractor (Winnipeg Building & Decorating) will be performing the work from the rooftop access; however, periodic construction noise (masonry chipping, sawing & hammering) is expected on level 200 over the course of this work. The 1st phase of roof repairs will occur over the L200 Washrooms, which will allow for an initial evaluation of the noise levels encountered/migrating into L200 occupied areas. Efforts to limit excessively disruptive/noisy activities to the early morning periods (7-8:30am) will be undertaken wherever the construction sequence of activities allows. Please be aware that construction sounds will still be apparent sporadically throughout the day as various construction tasks are undertaken (lumber movement, sawing, hammering) on the roof.
