Get your library card

1. Apply in-person at any UM Libraries service desk.

  • Bring a piece of identification that shows you are a Resident of Manitoba, such as a Driver’s License or Manitoba Identification Card.

  • You can download and fill out the Borrower Registration Form in advance, or fill it out in-person.

2.  You will be issued a 14-digit Library ID and a temporary password. 

  • Once you are registered, an email containing your account details will be sent to you.   

3.  Pay the $50.00 yearly Citizen Borrower fee.  

  • After your application has been processed, you'll need to pay this fee immediately through your new online Library account. 

Library privileges must be renewed annually. An email reminder will be sent one month prior to your account’s expiration date.

To renew your account, pay the $50.00 yearly fee online and visit a UM Libraries service desk to resubmit the UM Libraries’ Borrower Registration Form.

Borrow library materials

Borrowing and item use describes your borrowing privileges and item loan terms.

Access materials to discover the many ways to access our collections.

  • Borrowing privileges

    • Borrow library material  -  Borrow up to 20 items at a time, renew up to 3 times. Books have a 30 day loan period, Journals have a 1 week loan period.
    • Request library material -  Place holds on up to 25 items at a time.  You can request items which are 'available' or 'checked out' and pick them up at the library most convenient to you.

Access electronic resources

While visiting a UM library, citizen users may use a Guest Kiosk to access all electronic resources. Complete instructions are available at the Kiosk.

Scanning

Printing is not available for guests; however, there are options for downloading and sending content from the Guest Kiosk.

A stand-alone scanner may also be available for scanning print material and sending it to an email address.  Check with the library's service desk.
