Emergency medicine ultrasound model recruitment
At the Department of Emergency Medicine Ultrasound Program, we provide essential training to physicians in point-of-care ultrasound, enhancing their ability to deliver better patient care. To create realistic training environments, we rely on volunteers to act as models for our simulations. By volunteering, you play a vital role in shaping the skills of future health-care professionals and improving patient outcomes.

Before you attend Important information
Below are a few things to note to help you prepare for your registered session.
Pre-session guidelines
If you need to eat before your appointment, please do so in moderation to avoid any discomfort or gas, as it can affect the clarity of the scans. Light snacks will be provided to you after the session.
What to wear and bring
To ensure a comfortable and smooth experience during your ultrasound scanning session, please review the following guidelines on what to wear and bring.
- Wear loose, comfortable, and washable clothing that allows easy access to your tummy and chest, as gel buildup is likely during the scans.
- If you prefer, a hospital gown will be provided.
- We recommend bringing a change of clothes for after the session.
- You will be on a bed for approximately 1.5 to 2 hours while scans are conducted by a rotation of physicians. Feel free to bring an iPod, book, or simply relax during the procedure.
When to arrive
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment time. This allows for any necessary preparations, as the confirmed appointment time is when you should be on the exam table. If you have any concerns or issues, feel free to let us know in advance.
Where to go
The Clinical Simulation and Learning Facility (CLSF) is located in the basement of the John Buhler Research Centre (JBRC), also known as the Brodie Centre, at 727 McDermot Avenue.
Directions:
- Enter through the front doors of the Brodie Centre.
- Take the elevators located behind the Bookstore on the main floor (not the elevators directly in front of the Bookstore). To find them, pass the Bookstore entrance, round the corner, and head down a short hallway.
- If parking near the Health Sciences Centre (HSC) (William or Sherbrook parkades), follow the blue floor lines to the west side of HSC (old emergency doors). Cross the parking lot to the side entrance of the John Buhler Research Centre (JBRC).
- Take the elevators just inside the doors and press “B” to reach the basement level.
If you get lost, there are people available to direct you. You can also contact Anthony or Ericka on the day of the scan.
