Dr. Peter Donahue is the Dean of the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Manitoba. He holds a PhD and Master of Social Work from the University of Toronto, and a BA (Gerontology) and BSc (Biology) from McMaster University.
His research focuses on the health and well-being of older adults, including work and retirement, caregiving, 2SLGBTQIA+ aging, knowledge transfer, and issues relating to homelessness and those at risk. He served for a number of years with the Canadian Association on Gerontology, including Chair of the Education Division, Chair of the Awards Committee, and on the board executive.
Before moving into academia, Peter was a program coordinator for the Toronto Association of Neighbourhood Services – Seniors’ Program, a program coordinator for the Ontario Coalition of Senior Citizens’ Organizations, and a research fellow at Baycrest Centre for Geriatric Care. He is a founding member of the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly (NICE), where he served at the first Network Manager, and sat on their Board of Directors for many years.
