Winter Open House

School groups, students and families are invited to join us on campus to experience a day in the life of a UM student.

Can’t attend in-person? Join us for our Winter Virtual Open House on Monday, February 23 from 3:00-8:00 p.m.

Please note: this event is intended for future undergraduate students. Students seeking information about graduate programs (Masters/PhD) are encouraged to contact the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies for more information.

Win a $3,000 tuition prize! Grade 12 students – attend our Winter Open House on Feb. 19 for a chance to win a $3,000 tuition prize to be applied to your 2026-2027 University of Manitoba tuition fees! Some conditions apply, winner will be contacted following the Feb. 19 event.

Our Winter Open House is a come-and-go style event: come anytime between 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 19 and attend what you wish from our schedule of presentations and tours. Full schedule to be released in February 2026.

INFORMATION VILLAGE -- 2nd floor, UMSU University Centre: 
Explore UM faculties, programs and services in our information village, open throughout the event. Browse over 60 info booths and meet with program advisors, staff and current students. All UM faculties and academic programs are represented, as are most major campus service providers.

PRESENTATIONS -- 1st floor, UMSU University Centre: 
Choose what to attend from our schedule of presentations, offered throughout the day. To be brought to your choice of presentation, meet at the departure station for your chosen presentation on the 1st floor of University Centre at the posted time. To view the full schedule of presentations being offered, please see the event program (coming Feb. 2026).

TOURS -- Engineering and Information Technology Complex Atrium: 
Attend general campus tours, residence tours or Active Living Centre tours, offered throughout the day. To go on a tour, meet at the departure station for your chosen tour in the Engineering and Information Technology Complex (EITC) Atrium at the posted time. See your event program for tour times (coming Feb. 2026). While walk-ups are welcome, school groups are encouraged to pre-register groups of students for specific tour times when registering.

Self-Guided Walking Tour

Explore campus virtually: Use our 360° Virtual Tour to explore classrooms, labs and other facilities we can’t show on general tours.

PARKING AND BUSES: 
Free parking is provided for buses and guest vehicles in the Q student parking lot on the north side of campus, buses are also encouraged to drop off and pick up students here. From Q lot, follow the posted signs to University Centre for the event, it's an approx. 5 minute walk from the parking area to University Centre.

Current UM Students - Volunteer at Winter Open House

Are you a current UM undergraduate student? We’re seeking friendly and outgoing students to serve as campus tour guides and general event volunteers at the Winter Open House for high school students on Thurs. Feb. 19 over Reading Week.

Volunteer roles include: 

  • Campus tour guide – take a group of 15-20 future students on a 30-45 minute guided campus tour. Script and training provided.
  • Meeter and greeter – help guests find their way around open house and get to the activities they are interested in.
  • Presentation leader – accompany groups of future students to and from presentations occurring around campus, and record attendance statistics. 

Volunteer benefits include: 

  • Service hours toward recognition on your Experience Record as a UM Volunteer Program (UMVP) participant.
  • Free breakfast and lunch provided.
  • Great prize draws, including a $200 BookStore shopping spree just for campus tour guides!
  • Meet new friends and give back to the university community over Reading Week. 

Volunteer requirements: 

  • Sign up through the UM Volunteer Program.
  • Must be available to volunteer from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. on Thurs. Feb. 19.
  • Attend event specific training on Feb. 12,13, or 17 (multiple sessions offered).
  • Must be a current UM student enrolled in an undergraduate program to participate.
  • Must meet the conditions of the UM Volunteer Program to participate and earn service hours for Experience Record recognition.
  • Must be friendly, outgoing and approachable and prepared to speak with high school students, parents, teachers, and UM staff.
