A First Nation Leads Canada’s Energy Transformation
We all know that Canada—and the world—must undergo an energy transformation. We know we need to move away from fossil fuels and embrace renewable energy. This change may be the most significant challenge of this century, but it has been frustratingly slow in coming.
What many of us may not know is that a number of Canada’s First Nations are leading that transformation. This presentation will introduce you to one example—Northlands Dënesųłiné First Nation, a remote community in northern Manitoba—that has taken significant and exciting steps in to transform their energy systems.
Their leadership is inspiring. And it can provide lessons for the rest of us as we undertake this transformation in our own communities and our careers.

Bruce Duggan is an Associate Professor of Management at the Buller School of Business at Providence University College in Otterburne, Manitoba. He also leads Boke Consulting, a multidisciplinary team of people working on renewable energy, waste and recycling, shelter, food, and water, particularly with First Nations and in remote communities.
