Canadian Indigenous Ancestry Admission Categories
Standard - Canadian Indigenous Ancestry Category
A minimum of ten admission spaces are available annually to Canadian Indigenous Ancestry applicants. These spaces are available for applicants to the Asper School of Business under Track 1, Track 2, and Direct Entry. You must select this category during application to be considered - you cannot retroactively change your application category.
Students admitted through this category are required to register as a member of Indigenous Business Education Partners for a period of one year after admission.
Make sure to self-declare your Canadian Indigenous ancestry during your application to study.
New - Direct Entry Canadian Indigenous Ancestry Category
Direct Entry Requirements
Manitoba high school graduation including 5 credits at the Grade 12 level in courses designated S, G, or U.
A minimum average of 80% over the following courses, with no less than 70% in each:
- English 40S
- Any 40S Mathematics
- Two other 40S courses
Additional Requirements
Students admitted through this category are required to do the following:
- Register as a member of Indigenous Business Education Partners for a period of two academic years upon submitting their application to study at UM. Students must remain members in good standing and renew membership each year.
- Meet with an IBEP advisor before the annual registration period(s), who will register the student into their desired courses for a period of two years after admission.
- Upgrade their Math (if needed) to the Pre-Calculus level within two years of admission. Failure to do so will result in automatic withdrawal from the Faculty (Asper) but will allow students to continue their studies and reapply to Asper at a later date.
Northern Direct Entry - Canadian Indigenous Ancestry Category
This admission category has evolved into the Direct Entry - Canadian Indigenous Ancestry Category as of the Fall 2027 admission cycle, opening November 1, 2026 for applications.
