Profile

Don is a professional engineer with a career focused on agriculture and education. He spent 9 years at Manitoba Sugar Company as the Agricultural Manager, 3 years as Manager Agricultural Research and Development with PAMI, and 2 years as Engineering Manager with MESH Technologies. Don also worked as a Senior Instructor with Biosystems Engineering for the last 21 years of his career. As an instructor he taught a variety of courses but the majority were focused on design principles such as the first-year design course and numerous capstone courses. Don’s education consists of an Agricultural Engineering degree, an MBA and a PhD in Biosystems Engineering. His PhD subject was in engineering education.

As an engineer-in-residence in Biosystems Engineering Don:

  • Provides mentorship to the University of Manitoba Quarterscale Tractor team (UMATT).
  • Assists with the delivery of capstone design courses in the Department of Biosystems Engineering.
  • Exposes engineering students to the exciting challenges associated with Manitoba’s agricultural sector, and encourage more graduating students to consider careers in this sector
