Research and teaching interests

I am a quantitative conservation scientist focused primarily on improving conservation planning in anthropogenically-modified spaces. Much of my research examines how to advance conservation science by making better use of existing knowledge and data, and developing methods of translating data into knowledge and action. I collaborate extensively with NGO’s and the federal government to ensure that my research is tailored to the needs of end users. Current research themes include: balancing the needs of grassland birds with agricultural activities; understanding dynamic habitat requirements for migratory waterbirds; prioritizing action for terrestrial endangered species; and developing methods for filling biodiversity data gaps.
