The University of Manitoba Student Leadership Development Programs provide U of M students with the opportunity to develop comprehensive leadership skills by exploring a multitude of leadership techniques, theories and models through interactive workshops and activities.
All University of Manitoba students, undergraduate and graduate, are welcome to apply to these programs. Program participants must be enrolled as students for the term in which they are applying.
Students are selected based on how well they meet certain criteria in their application. The following criteria are used to select students, though additional criteria may apply to certain programs:

SLDP-I: Individual Leadership helps answer questions that we don’t often consider for ourselves: Who am I? What do I have to offer as a leader?
If you’re not sure where to start on campus, the program provides an excellent first step to your involvement. If you’re already an experienced student leader, this is a great development opportunity to polish and refine your leadership skills and all of the great things you’ve learned along the way.
This program involves learning in a small group setting. There are a maximum of 25 students per group, and through 7 hands-on workshops, you’ll work together to learn about your own leadership style and strengths, and develop some key leadership skills. Topics include personality type, leading with authenticity, effective communication, and exploring diversity and inclusivity.
Co-Curricular Recognition is provided to all participants who complete and meet all of the requirements of SLDP-I.

We are strengthened by those around us, and together, our groups and teams can do great things. SLDP-II: Collaborative Leadership will help you (and the groups you are part of) do great things effectively.
This program involves learning in a small group setting. There are a maximum of 20 students per group, and it is recommended that students complete SLDP-I before participating in SLDP-II (preference may be given to these students). Through 6 hands-on workshops, you will explore how groups can effectively collaborate, find a common purpose and build strong teams, overcome conflict and controversy, and engage active citizens who effect change in their communities. Students apply their learning from the workshops to a student or community organization through 10 hours of active involvement.
Co-Curricular Recognition is provided to all participants who complete and meet all of the requirements of SLDP-II.

If you’re already an experienced student leader, this is a great development opportunity to polish and refine your leadership skills as well as develop useful skills in small group facilitation and presentation.
This program involves learning in a small group setting. There are a maximum of 15 students per group, and training will be divided into two main components: developing the skills necessary to facilitate a program for a diverse group of students, and an in-depth look at the content of the Student Leadership Development Program.
Participants of SLDP-FIT can expect to develop a number of important skills including classroom management, group facilitation, activity planning, public speaking and team building. They will also get the chance to meet and interact with fellow student leaders on campus.
Co-Curricular Recognition is provided to all participants who complete and meet all of the requirements of the FiT program. Successful graduates of the FiT Program will have the opportunity to apply for paid Student Leadership Development Facilitator positions with the Student Life Office.
Student Leadership Development Program experience in either SLDP-I or SLDP-II is strongly recommended, but not required.
