This award is administered by the Faculty of Graduate Studies.

The G. Clarence Elliott Fellowship is an endowment fund that provides an annual graduate fellowship to a full-time University of Manitoba graduate student in either a master's or doctoral program.

Application required HTFC Planning and Design Canadian Indigenous Design and Planning Graduate Level Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

The purpose of the scholarship is to reward a graduate student who demonstrates a strong commitment to Indigenous design or planning in the Master of Landscape Architecture or the Master of City Planning programs offered through the Faculty of Architecture. Each year, beginning in 2025-2026 and ending in 2027-2028, one scholarship valued at $5,000 will be offered to a graduate student who:

  • is enrolled part-time or full-time in the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies in the Master of Landscape Architecture program or the Master of City Planning program offered through the Faculty of Architecture
  • has achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.0
  • has demonstrated a strong commitment to Indigenous design and/or Indigenous planning
  • has demonstrated a commitment to Professional Planning or the Landscape Architecture profession

Candidates must submit a CV and a written statement (maximum 500 words) outlining their commitment to Professional Planning or the Landscape Architecture profession and their research and professional goals as they pertain to Indigenous design and/or Indigenous planning.

Application required Shirley Bradshaw Scholarship Fund

One scholarship is available for a full-time graduate student enrolled in either the Master of City Planning program or the Master of Public Administration program and one scholarship is available for an undergraduate student in their third or fourth year of studies in one of the following areas of study: City Planning, Political Studies, Sociology, or Human Resource Management/Industrial Relations.  The application is available in early August each year through Aurora Classic.

The fund will be used to provide one or more scholarships for graduate students who:

  • have successfully completed the first year of the Master of City Planning program
  • in the next ensuing academic session, are enrolled full-time in the Faculty of Graduate Studies, in the second year of the Master of City Planning program
  • have achieved a minimum degree grade point average of 3.5 (based on the last 60 credit hours of study)
  • are student members in good standing of the Manitoba Professional Planners Institute
  • have demonstrated a commitment to the profession of City Planning, including but not limited to, active participation in MPPI programs and initiatives.
  • has submitted an application that will consist of (a) a research proposal (maximum 500 words) that describes the theme, scope, and methods of the proposed inquiry and (b) two letters of reference, one from a professor at a post-secondary institution and one from a planning professional. Candidates are invited to also submit a statement (maximum 500 words) that addresses the preference statements set out above.

Preference will be given first to students who are conducting research related to inner city neighbourhood revitalization, housing, Aboriginal and / or social equity issues in planning. Preference may also be given to students who have demonstrated strong connections to, or involvements with, inner city neighbourhoods and community development activities in those neighbourhoods.
