Leif Jensen

Leif Jensen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Law. His research and teaching focuses on constitutional, labour/employment, administrative, aboriginal, and Indigenous law. His L.L.M., from the University of Victoria, focused on identifying theoretical and practical ways for administrative agencies to meaningfully respond to Indigenous rights claims.

Prior to becoming an Assistant Professor, Leif was the first staff lawyer at the University of Manitoba Prison Law Clinic, where he received national coverage for his work representing inmates incarcerated as a result of their health needs. Leif has practiced criminal, labour, family, and administrative law. He has argued at all levels of court, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Leif has received numerous awards, including the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence for Sessional Instructors, the Roger Odlum Scholarship in Law, the Derek Burton Memorial Award, and the Thomas P. Deis/Cronkite Prize in Constitutional Law. He has presented to numerous organizations on prison law, client-centered practice, and other topics, and was the Editor-in-Chief for the Canadian Journal of Poverty Law from 2014-2016.
