Early childhood group music lessons

Register your toddler to six-year-old in one of our early childhood music classes to help them discover the world of music, experiment with rhythm and melody, and have a lot of fun!

    Toddlers Make Music

    In Toddlers Make Music, young children (18-36 months) discover the world of music through singing, dancing, clapping games, and playing musical instruments. Caregivers are welcome to play along with their child and discover the joy of making music together.

    Music for 3’s and 4’s

    In Music for 3’s and 4’s children will experiment with rhythm, melody and movement as they learn about music through playful group activities. Nursery rhymes and other simple songs will be incorporated into each lesson.

    Music for 5’s and 6’s

    In Music for 5’s and 6’s children will have fun with improvisation and composition in a supportive, participatory environment. Children will be encouraged to create simple melodies and rhythms as they explore dynamics, tempo and other musical ideas.

Musical Theatre Ensemble

Students will sing, dance, act, and most importantly, have fun in a creative and supportive environment that encourages exploration and imagination. Students will develop skills in stage movement, choreography, characterization, singing, harmonization, and more.

    • Vocal warm-up
    • Improvisation
    • Ensemble work
    • Choreography
    • Acting and movement games and exercises

Guitar Ensemble Classes

Guitar is a versatile instrument capable of rhythm, harmony, and melody. Combining multiple guitar players into a group, all playing together, is quite an awesome experience. Guitar students very rarely get the ensemble experience that band and orchestra instruments do.

  • The classes are scheduled for Saturday afternoons in the Tache Arts Centre.  There will be 8 classes on 1 hour in length.

    • October 17 & 24, November 7, 14, 21, 28, December 5 & 12 (no class on October 31st)
    • Ages 14+
    • Time: 3:30pm - 4:30pm
    • Strongly recommend students can read musical notation and TAB

Fiddling with Patti Kusturok

Prep Studies is thrilled to have North America Fiddlers Hall of Fame inductee Patti Kusturok lead a 4 class session of Beginner Fiddling classes.

  • Have you always wanted to learn how to fiddle?  Now is your chance!!  Join this group class and learn to play fiddle in a relaxed and social environment.

    The classes will be Saturday afternoons on the U of M campus in the beautiful Tache Arts Centre.  There will be 4 classes of 1 hour in length.

    • October 3, 17, 24 & November 7 (No class October 10th or 31st)
    • Ages 12+
    • 2:00pm - 3:00pm
    • For those who have played violin for at least a year

Peg City Polar Bears Summer Camp

Peg City Polar Bears Summer Camp is a great way to learn about and play a variety of percussion instruments, create crafts, play in an ensemble, explore rhythms and showcase your skills in a fun week of music, friendship and creativity.

  • The Peg City Polar Bears Summer Camp is designed for students interested in learning how to play percussion instruments and have the opportunity to play these instruments in an ensemble format!!

    There will also be a bit of art creation, some movement and some concerts and it will all end with a performance to showcase the students' talents at the end of the week.

    • August 4 - 7, 2026
    • 8:30am - 3:30pm (later pickup can be arranged if required)
    • Ages 8 - 12 - no experience required

The School of Art Prep Studies Classes

The School of Art Prep Studies program offers hands-on, studio-based art classes for children, youth and adults.
Classes are taught by experienced artists and educators and take place in the School of Art's professional studios.

  • SPRING/SUMMER 2026

    Prep Studies, in collaboration with The School of Art, offers short-term, non-credit classes designed to introduce participants to materials, techniques, and creative processes.

    This spring we are offering three classes:

    1. Mixed Media - a playful, hands-on class where students experiment with a variety of materials while building creative confidence.                                   Dates:  May 19 - June 23 (6 classes) Ages 8 - 12
    2. Introduction to Black & White Darkroom - Learn the fundamentals of black-and-white film photography and darkroom printing.                                     Dates:  May 21 - June 25 (6 classes)   Ages 15+
    3. Alternative Photo Processes - Discover photography without a camera.     Dates:  June 3 - June 24 ( 4 classes)  Ages 15+
