How to become a patient

We treat children, teenagers and adults. The age at which you may begin treatment is dependent on the growth and development of the jaw as well as the stage of tooth eruption. We also have many adult patients in our clinic who have chosen to pursue Orthodontic treatment later in life.

We only accept patients that have excellent oral hygiene.

If you wish to be placed on our waiting list for an orthodontic screening, you must have your dentist complete our Oral Hygiene/Restorative clearance form. Please submit the completed form to uofmortho@umanitoba.ca

Considerations before applying to be a patient

  • There may be a wait list to book your first appointment - the diagnostic screening assessment. This wait time can range from 6-9 months. As soon as your name reaches the top of the wait list, you will receive a letter in the mail (or an email if you provided us with one) with your appointment time and further information on our program including paperwork that must be completed and brought to your first appointment.
  • Some patients will not be accepted for treatment as they may not meet the patient requirements at that time for the specific teaching needs in the program.
  • Our hours (9 a.m. to noon, and 1 to 4 p.m.): If missing school or work for appointments is not an option, a private practice might suit your needs better.
  • Your flexibility with appointments: When you are accepted to the program you will be assigned to a specific clinic which will only occur on a certain day of the week. For example, one clinic may only be offered on alternating Tuesdays, while another is limited to one Monday each month. Based on your clinic assignment, there will only be certain days we can schedule your appointments, with the exception of emergency appointments.

Fees and payment

  • Fees

Our treatment fee for the 2020/2021 intake is $4,300.
    Clear aligner fee is $4,698.

Fees are subject to increase annually and are significantly less than a private specialty practice

    Payment for services

Patients are responsible to pay for their treatment after each appointment. If you have dental insurance coverage, our clinic staff will process the dental insurance forms on your behalf and you will later will be reimbursed by your dental insurance.

We accept cash, direct debit, credit cards.

For extensive treatment, such as carried out in the Orthodontic and Prosthodontic Clinics, payment can be arranged to be made over a period-of-time in conjunction with treatment to be fully paid when treatment is completed.

Although we are recognized by dental insurance, we do not accept payment directly from your insurance company. We will provide you with necessary forms you will need to seek re-imbursement from your insurance.
