Graduate Studies Fees
The Board of Governors has approved a tuition fee increase on all program and ancillary fees for 2019-2020; new fee rates have been posted.
Individual fee assessments for Fall and Winter Terms are available in Aurora.
Graduate Tuition Fees commence at the first registration following admission to a specific degree program and are NOT transferable between programs or degrees.
All Graduate students must pay the full tuition cost prior to graduation regardless of courses transferred in or number of terms required to complete the program. For course-based programs, additional fees may be assessed on a per course pro rata basis if additional credit hours are required.
Graduate Studies students, including Pre-Masters Students, are also assessed other applicable fees, including Student Services Fees, Endowment Fees, and Student Organization Fees. Refer to Other Compulsory Fees and Other Graduate Student Fees
Graduate Studies (including Pre-Masters) students enrolling in courses that are not part of their Masters or PhD program are assessed fees at the per credit hour course rate of the teaching unit for those courses.

All Pre-Masters students are assessed fees at the per credit hour course rate of the teaching unit for those courses.
Fees paid by a student while registered as a Pre-Masters student are not transferable to a graduate degree program at a later date.

Transfer from the Master’s to the Ph.D. program
Students who transfer to the Ph.D. program from a Masters program will be placed in the Two Year or Three Year Ph. D. program based on the Faculty of Graduate Studies regulations found in the Academic Guide. Once this placement has been determined, students may refer to the Registrar’s Office to determine their status with respect to Program Fees.
Fees for Collaborative PhD Program

If the University of Manitoba serves as the Lead University, students will be required to pay the same tuition and fees as all other students enrolled in a full-time doctoral program at the University of Manitoba. See PhD Programs.
If the University of Manitoba serves as the Partner University, students will be required to pay a Collaborative PhD continuing enrolment fee each Fall and Winter term until completion. In addition, students will be assessed the appropriate per credit-hour rate for any coursework completed at the University of Manitoba. Students will also be assessed all other applicable incidental and compulsory fees, including Student Service Fees, Endowment Fees and Student Organization Fees.

Continuing Fees

A graduate student whose program of study extends over more than the period described in the Graduate Fees section is required to register in each succeeding year, and is charged the Continuing Fee. The Continuing Fee is assessed at the rate in effect at the time of the assessment.

2019-2020 Graduate Student Organization Fees
All Graduate Studies Students: $86.82 in Fall Term, $86.82 in Winter Term and $5.00 in Summer Term.
All full-time graduate students who are assessed Student Organization Fees are enrolled in the UMSU Health and Dental Plan and are automatically assessed a fee for this insurance on their tuition statements. See Incidental Fees.
Distance Education Courses
Correspondence courses are covered by the Graduate Program Fees if they are approved as part of the student's current program.
Extra Courses

Technology Services Fee
These fees are assessed at the following rates to cover costs associated with the use of technology in the teaching and learning environment.
Undergraduate students and graduate students in a course based program will be assessed a fee of $6.51 per credit hour, assessed on a maximum of 15 credit hours.
Undergraduate students paying a program fee will be assessed a flat fee of $97.73 per term to a maximum of $195.46 per Fall/Winter Session.
Full-time graduate students paying a program or continuing fee will be assessed a flat fee of $97.73 per term to a maximum of $195.46 per Fall/Winter Session.
Part-time graduate students paying a program or continuing fee will be assessed a flat fee of $48.86 per term to a maximum of $97.73 per Fall/Winter Session.
Laboratory Fees
The University of Manitoba assesses an additional fee for all course sections that include a laboratory component, based on the type of lab used; these fees are refundable only until the revision deadline for the applicable course.

Sport and Recreation Fee
This fee supports the University of Manitoba's commitment to active living, sports and recreation. The Sport and Recreation Fee will be assessed to all University of Manitoba students, excluding those with existing agreements precluding the payment of service fees to the U of M.

U-PASS Fee
Full-Time students who are UMSU or GSA members will be assessed a U-Pass (Universal Transit Pass) fee of $136.25 per Term (Fall & Winter).

Manitoba International Health Insurance Plan (MISHP)
All University of Manitoba International Students are enrolled in the Manitoba International Students Health Plan (MISHP). This plan provides primary health care benefits equivalent to Manitoba Health. Enrolment in MISHP is mandatory for international students. You may request to opt out if you are covered by Manitoba Health or if you are already covered by MISHP through another Manitoba institution. Opt outs are managed by the administrator: visit mishp.ca/contact-us.

Architecture Information Technology Fee
All students in Architecture will be assessed an Information Technology Fee of $466.88.
The Technology Fee includes $105.00 to be directed towards a technology endowment fund. Remaining funds will be expended on technology items of direct benefit to students.

Education Practicum and Field Experience Fee
A fee of $163.74 per 3 credit hours is assessed for all education practicum and field work, field experience or field placement courses.
Fine Arts Studio Enhancement & Technology Fee
All School of Art students will be assessed $50.75 in each of the Fall and Winter terms ($25.37 in Summer Term).
This fee will be used to cover the cost of new capital equipment for the School of Art studios in order to support the curriculum. The fee collected will enable the school to ensure all equipment is current and functioning.
Law Clinical/Exam Fee
All full and half-time Law students will be assessed $114.00 in Fall Term.
Pharmacy Field Work and Course Fee

* Revenue from Grade Appeals is not credited to the RO. The fee is refunded to a student if the appeal is granted and the grade is raised. The fee is retained if the appeal is unsuccessful.
** Courier charges are variable based on address. Fees are set to be cost recovery based on the average charge for locales and also account for additional fees charged for wrong address and delivery to a private residence.
Examination Fees
A supplemental examination fee of $85.00 per exam paper (subject to change) is assessed when a student is granted the privilege of writing a Supplemental Examination; this excludes approved deferred exams.
An off-campus examination fee of $85.00 per exam paper (subject to change; plus invigilation and courier costs) is assessed when an application is made to write at a location which differs from the official university/departmental exam schedule; this excludes exams for Distance & Online Education courses.
Final Grade Appeal Fee
A fee of $50 (subject to change) is charged per final grade appealed and is refunded if the appeal is decided in favour of the student.
Letter of Permission Fee
A fee of $73.50 (subject to change) is charged per Letter of Permission application.
Locker Fee
Lockers may be made available to students in the building of their faculty or school (usually from their student council or association) with proof of payment of academic fees. The university reserves the right to allot one locker to more than one student. Locker fee rates are the responsibility of the student association.
Audit Courses
Graduate students auditing courses must register for the course(s) and will be charged a fee equal to one half of the fee normally associated with that course.
Extra Courses
Courses taken by graduate students in addition to those approved for their degree programs, are classified as OS (occasional) under "Course Category." For these courses, students are assessed the appropriate undergraduate fee based on teaching department for all courses taken. Fees paid for such courses are not transferable to a degree program at a later date.
Independent Study courses are covered by the Graduate Program Fees if they are approved as part of the student's current program.
Occasional Students
All occasional students are assessed the appropriate Undergraduate fees based on teaching department for all courses taken.
Fees paid by a student while registered as an occasional student are not transferable to a degree program at a later date.
