Executive Director of Student Support

  • Donald Stewart, PhD, CPsych

    Don is a Clinical Psychologist and Professor who has occupied many different roles at UM over the past 30 years. In his current position, he oversees the activities of nine busy Student Support units offering services in the areas of advocacy, accessibility, and mental, physical, and spiritual health and wellbeing. Prior to this, Don occupied leadership positions at the Psychological Service Centre and the Student Counselling Centre. Along with his administrative duties, Don is also active in training and supervising psychology interns, supervising graduate student research, and conducting his own research in student mental health and clinical supervision.

In addition to his UM activities, Don serves as the Vice-Chair of the Canadian Psychological Association Committee on Ethics, Chairs the Continuing Education Committee of the Psychological Association of Manitoba, and participates as a Consultant for the Ethics Resource Service of the Manitoba Psychological Society.

In alignment with the priorities of Student Affairs, Don’s continuing priorities are student mental health, sexual violence education and prevention, and substance use harm reduction.

  • Continue participation on Sexual Violence Steering Committee and subcommittees/working groups related to implementation of recommendations from A Path Forward report
  • Continue implementing priority recommendations from SVRC Pilot Project Final Report 

Support equity, diversity and inclusion initiatives across campus

  • Ensure Student Support units participate in various initiatives arising from President’s Task Force on EDI 
  • Continue programming and support of allies in addressing issues of racism and discrimination 
  • Explore options for securing dedicated and consolidated test and exam space for students with disabilities
